Buying real estate often represents the largest purchase and most significant investment that you will make in your lifetime. If you're like most people, the opportunity to purchase real estate will only come up a handful of times. Yet the process of purchasing a home is constantly changing and becoming more complex.

Here are a few things you can do as a buyer to get started:

Because prices on California's Central Coast are as much as they are, it is very important to establish the maximum amount of money you can comfortably afford. I suggest that you get in touch with a real estate lender very early in the process. They can review your financial picture and provide you with a prequalification letter as well as options for financing to best fit your personal situation. It's a good feeling knowing that you're looking at property that you can actually afford to buy. I’ve included links and email addresses for the lenders that I have found to be conscientious and helpful, plus they normally have very competitive rates. Tell them that Steve sent you and you’ll receive exceptional service.

Neighborhoods are extremely important. Remember the saying, "Real Estate is about three things. Location, location, location". Think about the kinds of things that would be important to you. Schools, lot size, proximity to shopping, historical significance, all of these can be important in choosing a neighborhood. It is a good idea to drive around the various neighborhoods during different times of day to get the feel of the various areas. I’m always happy to give you my opinion as well.

Finally there's the property itself. Architectural style, size, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, yards, condition, age, floor plan, all these affect the livability of a home. Once you've established your price range and neighborhoods of interest, I can help you find the property that fits your personal criteria among the hundreds that currently exist on the market. You can also follow the market yourself by signing up for the daily updates that will allow you to keep up with the market just like the Realtors do.

Remember that my services are free of charge for a buyer. I can help you purchase any property, including those listed for sale by other real estate brokers as well as for sale by owner.

My job is to help you understand the current real estate market as well as the process involved in making a purchase. This will maximize your benefit, both economically and personally. I receive a lot of satisfaction from staying on top of our dynamic real estate market and sharing that information and insights with you.
